COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army fed hundreds in Tucson for Thanksgiving by preparing over 800 meals using donated items, including 150 turkeys, 300 pounds each of potatoes, veggies, and stuffing, plus 25 gallons of gravy at its Hospitality House. Volunteers helped serve the meal while local citizens expressed thanks for the community support that made the event possible.  KGUN 9
  • Since June, Cynthia Martinez has hosted Borderlands Market themed events that bring local vendors and diverse Tucson communities together. Upcoming events include an Ugly Sweater Market on Nov. 29 at Ramada by Wyndham, a Dreamland Market on Dec. 6, a Countdown to Christmas Market on Dec. 14 at Tucson Boxing and Fitness, and additional markets later in December at Winterhaven and other venues.  Tucson Weekly

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Fourth Avenue in Tucson will see local shops offering deals on Black Friday and tomorrow’s Small Business Saturday as holiday shopping picks up. Shop owner Shram Bhanti, who reopened his store Bani after a decade, said the return to in-person retail will let buyers connect directly with sellers — a sign of renewed support for local business.  KVOA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Tucson announced it will hire almost 30 people to take calls for its 911 and 311 services with no prior experience required as long as applicants have a high school diploma. Job applications open December 1st and interested candidates may attend the Safe City Resource Fair at TCC on December 2nd from 9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m. or the City job fair at 320 N. Commerce Park Loop on December 16th from 9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m.  KGUN 9
  • Tucson Fire Department said that on Thanksgiving six fire vehicles stayed off service due to staffing shortages and ten vehicles were down at one point, raising concerns that response times could slow—especially as fewer firefighters volunteered for overtime. The department noted that four vehicles returned to service while the city announced 14 new firefighters from the fall academy.  KVOA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Casino Del Sol and the University of Arizona today announced a 20-year naming rights deal for Arizona Stadium—set to be called Casino Del Sol Stadium and valued at over $60 million. The partnership will boost ties between the Tribe, the university, and local fans with new branding and community programs in the coming fiscal year.  Tucson Weekly
