COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Desiree Cook, founder of Tucson nonprofit I Am You 360, uses her own past to help foster and homeless youth by giving them custom hygiene kits and building a tiny home community—her work has reached over 6,000 kids since 2014 and earned her a Civic Innovator Award; a film about her nonprofit will debut at Tucson Fox Theatre on Dec. 8 to support plans for a second tiny home project.  Tucson Sentinel

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local shops on Tucson’s 4th Avenue saw steady crowds Saturday as Small Business Saturday kicked off the holiday shopping season—owners said the event boosts sales well into the winter and spring months.  KGUN 9

CULTURE NEWS

  • San Xavier District held an Indigenous Marketplace on November 29 that provided local artists a platform to sell their work—boosting native crafts in the area.  KVOA
  • A new mural in Sunnyside honors late Army veteran Martin Barreras (an Army Ranger who died in 2014) as local artist Pen Macias led his family and community volunteers in creating an artwork that shows key moments of his life, with Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva joining to support the project (highlighting community unity).  KGUN 9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Arizona’s Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium will mark 50 years of science learning on Dec. 13 with free admission, a history exhibit, an animated show and a star talk — it has helped local students explore science since it opened in 1975.  Tucson Sentinel

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tucson city officials are seeking a company to design and build an advanced water purification facility that will filter 2.5 million gallons per day—moving ahead with a plan to turn wastewater into drinking water. The request for qualifications was published last month with inquiries due by Dec. 3—and a contract award is expected in spring 2026.  Tucson Sentinel

SPORTS NEWS

  • The University of Arizona men’s basketball team won 98-61 against Norfolk State on November 29th at McKale Center—Junior center Motiejus Krivas and freshman Koa Peat led the win with 20 and 16 points respectively. The Wildcats will face Auburn University on December 6th at McKale Center.  The Daily Wildcat
  • The University of Arizona beat Cal State Bakersfield 78—63 on November 29th in Tucson. The Wildcats improved to a 6—0 record as they continue their pre-Big 12 schedule.  Arizona Daily Star
  • Wildcat fans celebrated their Territorial Cup win when the team defeated its rival on November 29. The victory gave Arizona supporters bragging rights—reminding the community of their strong school spirit.  KVOA
  • Mason Hunt from Pima Community College averaged 24.3 points and shot 77 percent from the field to earn ACCAC Division II Player of the Week during wins over Park University JV, Benedictine University Mesa JV and Justice University JV from November 16-22. The undefeated Aztecs will open ACCAC conference play on Wednesday at Phoenix College at 7:30 p.m.  Tucson Sentinel
