COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After immigration agents executed search warrants last Friday, community members met on Saturday at Menlo Park to support affected families and learn about rights during enforcement actions. Organizers said the closed meeting was held for safety and privacy.  KGUN 9
  • The Elks Lodge held its 17th annual bike giveaway on Dec. 6 at its Tucson facility, giving new bikes to about 500 kids. The local event celebrated community spirit (per officials) and brought families together.  KVOA
  • The Town of Huachuca City is now accepting donations at its Town Hall (and Library) for a Christmas assistance program that provides food boxes and toys to low-income families; residents have donated canned goods while the town still needs turkey and stuffing to complete the meal boxes.  KGUN 9

  • The Parade of Lights returned downtown yesterday, Dec. 6 (featuring over fifty floats) as local residents enjoyed a festive march that celebrated community spirit.  KVOA
  • Casino Del Sol hosted the 20th Tucson Tamal & Heritage Festival on Saturday, Dec. 6 at the AVA Amphitheater. The free event showcased tamale contests, live cultural performances and artisan vendors selling handmade crafts and holiday gifts.  KVOA
  • Tucson composer Daniel Asia premieres his 22-minute song cycle 'Pines' Last Poems'—based on final poems by his late collaborator Paul Pines—at Leo Rich Theater on Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. produced by Arizona Friends of Chamber Music, honoring 40 years of creative partnership.  Tucson Sentinel
  • A Green Valley retiree submitted a DNA sample today to aid a campaign to identify USS Arizona servicemen buried as unknowns; the effort may soon help match remains with families.  Arizona Daily Star
