COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Green Valley Baptist Church will host its annual drive-through nativity starting Friday, Dec. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on the weekend of Dec. 19. The event supports families through a holiday food drive with alternating donations (Green Valley then Sahuarita food banks) and free treats.  KGUN 9
  • Hundreds gathered for the Walk for Kids event hosted by HSL Properties on Dec. 7 in Tucson, supporting local children and community programs. The event highlighted community unity and the city's dedication to its youth.  KVOA

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ascent Aviation Services and Israel Aerospace Industries are planning a facility in Marana to convert Boeing 777-300ER passenger planes to freighters. The project is expected to boost cargo operations near Tucson.  Arizona Daily Star

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chandler veteran Jack Holder, one of fewer than 75 Pearl Harbor survivors, recalled his vivid memories of the December 7 attack that changed history. A tribute will be held tomorrow at the USS Arizona Memorial Gardens (lighting over 1,100 columns at sunset) to honor those lost.  Tucson Sentinel
  • The 31st annual Parade of Lights brightened Downtown Tucson on Saturday evening, drawing families and community groups with festive displays and holiday cheer. Don Guerra of Barrio Bread served as grand marshal and praised the event for showcasing Tucson's unique spirit.  Tucson Sentinel
  • The Tucson Festival of Books is scheduled for March 14 and 15 at the University of Arizona campus mall, featuring renowned authors Salman Rushdie, Susan Lucci, Arthur Sze, and R.L. Stine, organizers said at a recent event (continuing a strong tradition since 2009).  Tucson Sentinel
  • Sculpture Tucson marks its 10th anniversary with The Founders' Show that highlights local sculptors supporting art sales at its spring Sculpture Festival Show & Sale at Brandi Fenton Memorial Park. Artists must apply by Dec. 10 for next year's event.  KGUN 9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The U of A provost office announced a one-time $200,000 bridge funding program today to support students whose grant projects lost federal funds — the measure will help maintain ongoing academic research on campus.  Arizona Daily Star

  • Arizona Wildcats (6-1) will face New Mexico Lobos (6-3) in women's college basketball at McKale Center on Sunday afternoon.  Arizona Daily Star
  • Tickets for the 2025 Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl are on sale now. The postseason game will feature Miami University (Ohio) RedHawks facing Fresno State Bulldogs and will begin at 2:30 p.m. MT on Saturday, Dec. 27 at Casino Del Sol Stadium.  KVOA
  • Casino Del Sol announced that it will host the Arizona Bowl after a union event on Dec. 7 — an announcement that promises fresh local sports action.  KVOA
  • The Pima Community College women’s basketball team won its fifth annual Indigenous People’s Game on Saturday at West Campus Aztec Gymnasium, defeating Park University JV 114-52 by 62 points. Kiley Sours-Miller scored a game-high 20 points and the bench added 66 points + strong contributions secured the win.  Tucson Sentinel
  • The Pima Community College men's basketball team defeated Justice University JV 146-61 at West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Saturday, led by Mason Hunt's 25-point performance; they will play South Mountain Community College on Wednesday as part of ACCAC conference play.  Tucson Sentinel
  • The University of Arizona men's basketball team beat Auburn 97-68 on Saturday, Dec. 6 at McKale Center as they earned their fourth win over a ranked team and improved to 8-0 this season. Five players scored in double figures, with freshman forward Koa Peat leading with 18 points.  The Daily Wildcat
  • The University of Arizona Football team will play in the Holiday Bowl on Jan. 2 in San Diego against the SMU Mustangs; the Wildcats enter the game with a 9-3 record and a five-game winning streak.  KOLD News 13
