COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Volunteers are invited to join the annual homelessness count on Jan. 28, 2026 from 6 to 11 a.m. across Pima County as the Tucson Pima Collaboration to End Homelessness will provide training and assign experienced leads — no prior experience is required. Tucson Sentinel
- ➤ Marana Police Volunteer Foundation received a $6,340 grant from the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety to supply about 80 child car seats to families in need as part of its ongoing child car seat safety program (certified technicians guide proper installation). KVOA
- ➤ Tucson nonprofits are scheduling holiday events to help people in need, with several initiatives planned at local community centers. The programs will run throughout the season. Arizona Daily Star
- ➤ Local supporters, led by her cousin Rene Lopez, propose naming the new Kennedy Park sports complex for former UA softball star Stacy Redondo (a Tucson native who inspired local youth) to honor her legacy; the city accepts public comments until Jan. 15. KGUN 9
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Over 20 gallons of diesel spilled at the AM/PM at 2891 W. Valencia Road last Saturday when a driver drove off with the nozzle still attached, prompting Drexel Heights Fire District to build a dike and Tucson Fire to add absorbent material as Pima County Wastewater and Sheriff's Department investigated. - ➤ Three Taco Giro restaurants in Casa Grande, Sierra Vista, and on Valencia have reopened after a federal operation on Friday, and five more locations are set to open soon (local staff welcomed customers back as a sign of community support). KGUN 9
- ➤ Monroe Capital and Ascent Aviation Services held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for two nearly completed 90,000 sqft hangars at Pinal Airpark, marking a $55 million investment to boost aviation services and create 300 high-paying jobs in Marana. Gov. Katie Hobbs joined the event in March. KVOA
