- ➤ Two Tucson nonprofits, the Pima County Community Land Trust and St. Francis Community Services, are helping families with affordable housing & food needs amid rising costs and flat wages. - ➤ Astro Toys owners closed their business this week (after several challenging retail years) and donated 10 boxes and eight bags of toys to the Salvation Army to help Tucson kids enjoy the holiday season. The support will help distribute about 7,000 toys across the area. KGUN 9
- ➤ The Fourth Avenue Winter Street Fair is underway with closures on Fourth Avenue and nearby streets until roads reopen at 11 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14 - Sun Link buses are detouring riders to alternate stops during the event. KOLD News 13

- ➤ Casino Del Sol (enterprise of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe) and the University of Arizona today announced a 20-year naming rights deal renaming Arizona Stadium for over $60 million. The deal will support cultural, educational, and community programs. Inside Tucson Business
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The University of Arizona will celebrate the Flandrau Science Center’s 50th anniversary tomorrow by offering free admission in Tucson (10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). The center first opened in 1975 as a hub for interactive science learning. KGUN 9
- ➤ The Winterhaven Festival of Lights returns for its 76th year, offering community members a chance to enjoy festive light displays and family activities in Winterhaven. Organizers say the event will continue its tradition of holiday cheer as local participants gather to celebrate the season. KOLD News 13
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Beale Infrastructure has pledged $15 million for local education and workforce development as part of Project Blue, a data center project expected to add $3.6 billion in capital investment and create 3,000 construction jobs in Tucson. The binding MOA will be presented to county supervisors on Dec. 16. KVOA

- ➤ The Pima JTED board is considering a bond election in November 2026 as rising enrollment strains its central campuses and forces the program to turn away students. - ➤ Mountain View High School lifted its Hold action yesterday after a report of a student carrying a gun was confirmed as a false prank. Law enforcement and school officials quickly investigated the claim before classes resumed as usual. KVOA
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ ADEQ is investigating South32’s Hermosa project near Patagonia after lab tests on Nov. 30 showed the mine’s water discharge exceeded antimony limits (permit standards); the company must complete a 30-day study by Dec. 26 to address the issue. Tucson Sentinel
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Marana's planning commission on Wednesday recommended rezoning twin 300-acre parcels for a data center as part of Project Blue. Beale Infrastructure's plan calls for an air-cooled system that cuts water use by 95% and promises jobs, tax revenue, and infrastructure improvements + the commission approved the change by a 6-0 vote. - ➤ Four Arizona horses tested positive for EHV-1, a contagious virus that spreads through direct or indirect contact.
