ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Tucson Fire Department rescued a German Shepherd puppy with minor injuries from underneath a car on the east side Tuesday night; Animal Control helped free the dog, which was then taken to a veterinarian for care.  KGUN 9

CULTURE NEWS

  • University of Arizona's Student Union back of house team hosted their 11th annual Gift of Giving event on Tuesday morning, raising food donations for the campus food pantry and displaying creative decor made from repurposed shipment materials (like a giant nutcracker and gingerbread designs) for a couple hundred attendees.  KGUN 9
  • The Saguaro City Music Theatre brings the musical Annie to Berger Performing Arts Center, opening Saturday, Dec. 20 and running through Jan. 4. Tickets cost $28.50 to $69.50 and are available online or at Bookmans Entertainment Exchange (Stone and River, Speedway and Wilmot locations).  KVOA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Arizona is mentoring students to research skin cancer—a disease that affects residents 40 percent more than the national average. The program aims to build expertise in skin cancer research and improve community health.  KOLD News 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews working on I-10's widening project have placed lane restrictions on Tucson frontage roads between Ina and Orange Grove and closed the westbound shoulder between Ina and Cortaro through Friday; drivers should expect slowdowns from 9 a.m. + 6 p.m.  KVOA
  • Tucson’s City Council will vote Tuesday on raising the transient occupancy tax from 6% to 9% to add $1.1 million in revenue, a change that local hotel owners worry will lead to higher room prices and lower tourism spending — the new fee will take effect March 1, 2026.  KOLD News 13
  • Pima County Board of Supervisors approved $838,390 in grants from rolled-over funds to help with food, housing, utility, transportation, and legal needs in Tucson — funds that are part of the Prosperity Initiative aimed at reducing generational poverty.  KVOA
  • Pima County Supervisors accepted a binding deal with the Project Blue data center Tuesday that commits to 100% renewable energy and $15 million in donations for education and job training — closing is planned before Christmas in Tucson.  KGUN 9
